@aaem That’s a good idea, I hope it will get the attention of the CEO of Thingiverse
Could fishing go next to Farming?
@thingiro That works well, land next to water
It’s more of a recreational hobby. Most people go fishing for relaxation, leisure, or personal enjoyment. Many anglers enjoy fishing to unwind, de-stress, and connect with nature. You should give it a try.
One thing I have noticed is that some of the categories have things in them that do not really fit that category. So sure some users just click away and there will always be some of that. But some of the problem is caused by how they are named.
The best example of that is the 3D Printing category. That used to be filled with accessories for 3d printers which also used to have some sub categories. Now its filled with all kinds of random stuff because its not a very specific name and everything on the site is 3d printing.
I have been thinking about this some, maybe this should be Hobby Parts.
Model railroad, RC boats, cars and planes, gears and pulleys, control panels, dollhouses, all sorts of stuff. Board games??
It really depends on how granular you want to get, and how popular certain types of things are.
I am sure everyone who reads this will have their own preference but you need some sort of starting point. Someone with database access could query titles for whole bunch of keywords and come up with rough numbers on how many of certain items there are. And if you see a bunch of stuff then maybe it needs its own category. For instance I bet “fidget” would have a lot of hits. Or “D&D” and “Warhammer” .
So if you query the database and have a million entries with 'fidget" in the tittle you make a Fidget category and write a custom query to move those million entries into the new category.
Is it possible to have a section for life sized auto replacement parts, such as ac vents, or clips or radio surrounds and such. Just thinking that it would be easier to separate the RC sized from life sized… but I’m new here and haven’t fully gotten used to the layout as yet
Car parts are some of the most popular Spare Parts, so I was thinking of having Car parts as one of the prominent sub-categories inside Spare Parts.
If you were looking for a specific part, would you search by car model?
Yes I would
