Digital Life and AU: New features for privacy security and a new plugin!

Hello Thingiverse!

When I created my first version of my Thingiverse account, my real name has been used and someone didn’t like it. So I deleted my version of my account and recreated a new one, but with an alias. So, I think that’s not good.

I have two requests to ask you:

When a user aged 16 or below create a new Thingiverse account, they must create a new username adapted for her account, without typing a real name, like real.name.

All the community knows that Thingiverse is available for everyone, so the NSFW content are not allowed by default. Before creating, add a prompt for giving his birthdate, but they have to give the real birthdate. So add a comfirmation that is a real one before sending a secure email. And after the email is verified, the account is created. When this happens, add a prompt to create a new username adapted for the account without typing a real name. If they type it, add an error text to block and retrying. If they are 7 to 10 years, block AI and NSFW content, If they are 11 to 16, allow AI and block NSFW, And for 17 or over, allow two types of content.

And now, another one: The ChatGPT, and Claude plugin of Thingiverse.

With this plugin, ChatGPT and Claude users can ask their agent to analyze data from Thingiverse projects, create descriptions, and calculate mesures in 3D to find if an object fits perfectly in a thing for select things created in the Thingiverse community.

The writing capabilities should be available in Chat mode, and mesure calculating 3D in Work (a.k.a Codex)

This topic will be perfect for families who are using Thingiverse and OpenAI and Anthropic users.

Thanks for responding at advance,

I’m kind of curious to know what your real name is and why someone wouldn’t like it.

The first idea is decent, but the second idea for an AI plugin won’t happen. Thingiverse doesn’t really support AI content, so they probably don’t want a plugin to ChatGPT or Claude.

As to the first one, it’s not a bad motive to want to not show NSFW content to minors but I think that it is logistically unfeasible for a few reasons, if you’re really trying to make sure that minors don’t even have the option to turn on NSFW content.

The main one being that then Thingiverse has to get involved in age-verification, which is becoming notorious for being unreliable and easy to hack. Just point the camera at your friends face for facial recognition or use someone else’s ID. Obviously then you get into privacy concerns. Many people don’t particularly want any companies to have a picture of their ID because it could always be leaked accidentally or other privacy concerns.

The other reason is that I very much doubt that there is some huge group of minors using Thingiverse to print NSFW items.

I’m curious why you’re calling this a privacy feature as all it seems to do is give yet another company more of my data which could then be leaked. Yes it does make it so that minors can’t put their names on their accounts, but how would that logistically work? How the website going to figure out whether or not that was a name? If I put in a name of a fictional character how would it know not to trigger that and disallow that? I don’t think that it is a logistically reasonable goal to try to make it so that minors don’t put their names on websites. Hopefully their parents have taught them something about privacy so that they know not to share personal information.

Also by someone not liking your real name do you mean someone that you know thought that you shouldn’t put your real name out there?

This should be a great IDEA a plugin for ChatGPT because when I asked, you know, to analyze data from my things, it say 304, the error code. So he can’t look at it. And that’s why i’m asking for respecting private life. Because our real name, it can’t go for that.

And character names should be allowed, because If you type for exemple creeper#1, that means it’s a great name for their accounts.
