Hi everyone,
I’m planning to install LED light strips in my home. However, I’d like to use them as indirect lighting. My idea was to 3D print a housing into which I could glue the light strips. It would be cool if the housing were semi-open, with patterns on the sides. When the light shines through, it would project patterns onto the wall or ceiling.
Has anyone ever seen a 3D print like this for a light channel?
Best regards from Switzerland

Like a U channel? would the strip be adhered to the back and light projects out the opening?
Something like this?

So I would think about how it would be fastened to the wall or ceiling and how you would get the strip into the channel. That preplanning is important. I know what its like to try and work on my excavator when I can’t reach things or have to disassemble components to do a simple fix.
This is relatively simple but trying to get a strip fastened into a closed channel is not necessarily easy depending on its length. You can make a channel for a standard holder and then try different covers to see what effect you might get. You also might want the channel to have a chamfered back to avoid the sharp edging. The lens/diffuser could be friction fit and since its a different part you can choose how and where they are applied.
Just an aside, I would not trust an AI to provide me with what I would see. I always do my own tests to see what actually happens.
